Our Approach
The name The Philosopher Carpenter reflects an approach to carpentry grounded in careful consideration, thoughtful design, and attentive craftsmanship.
Typically a one-man operation led by Kemeys Goethe, the practice emphasizes understanding each client's needs and translating their ideas into practical, well-considered work. From the first conversation to the finishing details, the aim is to provide a thoughtful experience and results that clients can appreciate for years to come.
-
Whether by phone, email, or an on-site visit, we begin by discussing your ideas, needs, and priorities. This is an opportunity to understand the project, consider its possibilities, and determine whether we're a good fit for the work.
-
Once the project is understood, we consider the materials, methods, and scope of work. Depending on its complexity, this may involve measurements, sketches, design discussions, or consultation with other trades.
We then prepare an estimate or proposal outlining the anticipated work and associated costs. Some projects are straightforward; others require further investigation or planning before a reliable scope can be established.
-
With the scope and schedule agreed upon, the work begins. As a small practice, we take a hands-on approach, giving attention to the practical details and communicating as questions or unforeseen conditions arise.
Our aim is to carry out the work carefully, respectfully, and in keeping with the character and needs of the home.
